Once again, the snow has fallen on Britain pretty much crippling the whole country. No one will drive anywhere, the trains are either delayed or cancelled and between BAA and EuroStar, it's now almost impossible to leave.
But once again the question is raised "Why can't we cope?". There really is no simple explanation that I can give. Plenty of people have said that snow is so rare that no one has any supplies of anything when it does come. Considering we've had plenty of snow and ice over the last 3 winters, this can't possibly be the case unless everyone is totally useless.
However, I think it's more down to the fact that nobody cares anymore. Years ago when we had bad snow and ice, people would be out there clearing paths and back roads to keep them clear, but now no one wants to do anything when someone else could. So fine, we say "NO, we won't cleat anything. The council should." and then to pay for it, council tax goes up another £400 next year. Now this would be even more outrageous, so now the paths and roads need to be cleared but not by you and not at extra expense. So the policing budget, or the education budget is cut to pay for this work. So now to clear a path, crime goes up or education suffers, which no one will put up with. So this is an un-winnable battle. Or is it?
It's time to wake up and see that things won't just happen. Everyone needs to go out and do their bit. I know that I'm now going out to clear the path in front of my house. I'm not getting paid, I don't own the land but it is helpful for society as a whole. So I urge anyone reading this, not to complain about how we handle the snow but go and do something about it. If everyone does, then we will be much better off.
