For around 18 months now, I've had mobile broadband from O2. The contract was set for renewal in December. So knowing I should give at least 30 days notice, I phoned up early in November. Spoke to someone in India (no surprise there) to say I wanted to cancel the contract on renewal date and yes, that was fine and sorted.
Now in the new year, I decided just to check MyO2 for any outstanding bills and found the account still active. So upon calling O2 customer services again I'm told that the account was never closed, they put down "customer wanted information on ending contract" rather than actually doing what I asked. So now they say it can't be ended until February and I will still be charged up until then.
I have tried to discuss this problem with O2, but they simply aren't interested so I've told them that I have now cancelled my direct debit as I refuse to pay for their incompetence/con.
While O2 may look like a good option, especially for iPhone visual voicemail, you should watch out for them. Either their customer service staff are useless or simply out to scam customers.
